SARZEAU AND THE RHUYS PENINSULA

The Rhuys peninsula is circled to the north by the Morbihan gulf (meaning small sea in Breton) with its magnificent views unto the gulf’s numerous islands; and to the south by the ocean with its beaches and rocky points. The town of Sarzeau is located at the heart of the peninsula where you will discover various activities.
You could visit: The SUSCINIO castle, the folk museum, Kerlevan castle and the cider museum to list only a few...
This varied landscape can be explored on foot, by bike or on horse by following the oyster route which links many interesting places. There are chapels (Penvins, Trevenaste, St Martin...), picturesque villages and small ports such as St Jacques and The Logeo to discover, and also the lively port of Crouesty with its thalasso therapy center.
You could spend most mornings wandering the local markets in search of regional culinary specialities which you would have tried and tasted at the many restaurants and crêperies.
Let’s not forget water sports: beaches, on the southern coast mostly, are ideal for swimming. The Roaliguen sailing school is only 800m from the campground and fishing is done both by boat and from shore.
From Port Navalo you can embark on a short but unforgettable cruise of the gulf and alight at on Ile aux Moines or Ile d’Arz for a couple of hours. You could otherwise catch the ferry to Belle-Ile or Houat and spend the day sight-seeing these quintessentially Breton islands.
Summer is full of fun events such as historical re-enactments in the courtyard of the Suscinio castle on July 16th, 22nd and 27th and August 5th and 11th. On July 13th most towns have a village fête and put on a firework display. We have Celebrations in honour of the Ocean at the Port of St Jacques on July 18th and August 15th. On August 21st is a Fest Noz in the town square at Sarzeau. The Tourism Office of Sarzeau organises plenty of outings to keep your days busy: bird spotting every Tuesday and Friday morning, group walks on Wednesday mornings, outings in horse-drawn carts and museum visits on Thursday afternoons...

Not too far from Sarzeau, within driving distance, is the medieval city of Vannes, and on the other side of the Morbihan gulf are many more places to visit such as Arradon, Baden, Carnac’s megalithic alignments, Auray and the port of Trinité-sur-mer... There are also, to mention only a few, the picturesque villages of Rochefort en Terre and La Gacilly
